Mentoring : Mentoring other poets; 2005 – Natasha Godfrey; 2006  -  Marcie Callum; 2007 – Jane Seabourne; 2008 – Sean Kelly. In 2008 Julie also mentored a teacher in school for CP.

Grants:  Individual grant of £30,000 from ACE in 2004. This enabled her to set up Poetry Central with Roz Goddard and Simon Pitt.  They were able to lever a substantial amount of goodwill,  in kind support and  to eek out a  little more funding from other organisations in order to set up a host of projects over a  two year period.  During this time they commissioned a number of new works from poets in the midlands. They also commissioned and organised  tours for a number of mixed arts exhibitions (fine art and poetry) around the country, organized and funded many live poetry events for writers around the region and funded a number of publications.  Their mentoring programme was such a success that when the Poetry Central mentoring scheme stopped a number of other organisations stepped in to offer other such mentoring schemes in the future. The residential course at the Hurst for writers who wished to improve their performance skills was also very successful and such courses have since been repeated.
