Brief Background: Born in Sutton Coldfield, England in 1960. A former teacher, Advisor and Creative Advisor for Creative partnerships who has for the last ten years worked full time as a poet. She is Midlands based and travels nationally and internationally delivering workshops, conducting readings, performing, lecturing and judging poetry competitions. Julie is a Birmingham Poet Laureate (2002-2003), Director of Poetry Central, Poet in Residence at Symphony Hall, a Director of Warwick Words festival, Founder of the Oasis Café Theatre and a Fellow of Hawthornden.
Publications: Individual poems and articles have been published in over 50 newspapers and magazines at home and abroad. She has edited and co-edited five anthologies, the most recent of these is ‘Bluebeard’s Wives’ (Heaventree Press 2007) which was co-edited with Zoe Brigley. Julie’s full Poetry collections with Pontfract Press include: Beyond the Bullring 2001 (ISBN 1-900325-19-5), Cut on the Bias 2002 (ISBN 1-900325-29-2), Through the Eye of a Crow 2003 (ISBN 1-900325-34-9), Wasted Lives 2003 (ISBN 1-900325-35-7), Bluebeard’s Wife 2005 (ISBN 1-900325-42-X. The 2006 translation of some of her poetry into Gujarati was published in India: Aheenthi 2006.
